Kenny Slaught recently discussed on his blog at KennySlaught.com a new state-of-the-art therapy available for veterans at Hospice of Santa Barbara. EMDR, or eye movement desensitization and reprocessing, is a modality has being used effectively to treat veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The therapy uses eye movements in a unique way that processes trauma and reframes the raw, vivid imagery associated with it in the hippocampus. The brain then “re-files” the painful memory so that patients can deal with the trauma in a more objective manner.
