Those with PTSD feel painful emotions when they recall a traumatic event, which is similar to grieving. These negative feelings can be processed with EMDR. This technique uses a combination of eye movements and taps. In therapy, the clients will focus on the sounds while recalling the painful event. Therapists will assist them in understanding the painful emotions and better cope with triggers.
